Isaac V. Davis, 88, veteran of the Civil War and resident of Wallace vicinity nearly all of his life, died at the St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill Wednesday night of last week at 10:45 o'clock following an illness of about 4 weeks.  Mr. Davis underwent an operation for the amputation of his right leg two weeks ago but failed to rally from the shock of the operation.  The deceased was born. near Salisbury, NC Aug 27, 1842 the son of Vandiver and Mary Davis.  When he was four he came to Fountain County. with his parents and had resided here continuously since that time. During the Civil War, Mr. Davis served as a member of Co B 63rd Ind Vol. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Cassinda Philpott, whose death occurred 25 years ago.  The survivors are 3 sons: John of Wallace; Albert of Crawfordsville and Charles of Kingman, four daughters: Mrs. Lonnie Gooding of Waynetown; Mrs. Minnie Watson of Wallace; Mrs. Bessie Myler of Sidell, Ill; and Mrs. Lawrence Reed of Raccoon.  In addition there are 27 grandchildren and 15 greats.  Funeral services were held Saturday at the Wallace Christian church, with burial in Sackmire Cemetery.
